Federal govt announces Indigenous loan guarantee for Ont. nuclear project – June 23, 2026

In Clarington, Ont., Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne announces a partnership agreement between the federal and Ontario governments and the Williams Treaties First Nations for the building and ownership of small modular reactors.
The project is being backed jointly by $715 million in loan guarantees between the federal and provincial government in Ontario.

Minister Champagne is joined by provincial ministers Stephen Lecce (energy and mines) and Peter Bethlenfalvy (finance).
