MPs comment on Canada’s energy exports, legislative push ahead of summer break – June 17, 2026

MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as they convene for the daily question period in the House of Commons.

Conservative MP Michael Chong comments on a joint statement by G7 leaders on Canada being a stable global energy provider. Chong is also asked about the new report from a special parliamentary committee examining the expansion of medical assistance in dying to individuals solely suffering from a mental illness.

Conservative MPs Rachael Thomas and Garnett Genuis speak about a motion their party introduced at committee regarding allegations of Chinese foreign interference. They also comment on how they intend to campaign against Alberta independence.

NDP Leader Avi Lewis and NDP MP Jenny Kwan comment on the Liberal government’s effort to push through legislation ahead of Parliament’s summer break.

Ministers Marc Miller (Canadian identity and culture) and Patty Hajdu are also asked about the government’s legislative push ahead of the end of the parliamentary sitting.
