Government tables new legislation on aimed at banning forced labour in supply chains – June 12, 2026

MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as they convene for the daily question period in the House of Commons.

Rob Oliphant, parliamentary secretary to the minister of foreign affairs, discusses new legislation that was tabled in the House of Commons aimed at ensuring products coming into Canada are not produced using forced labour practices. The legislation comes in response to a new 10 per cent tariff threat from the Trump administration on more than 60 countries over forced labour concerns.

Liberal MP Greg Fergus and Conservative MP Gérard Deltell are asked about a New Brunswick Supreme Court ruling stating that the province’s lieutenant-governor must be bilingual.

Deltell also speaks about Prime Minister Mark Carney’s meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and expectations surrounding next week’s G7 Summit in Évian-les-Bains, France. (June 12, 2026)
