Instead of addressing Kealy charge, Findlay backs Alberta separatists and jets to Danielle Smith fundraiser
After spending 24 hours refusing to comment on her “friend” and political ally Jordan Kealy’s sexual assault charge, Kerry-Lynne Findlay is headed to Alberta for a dinner event with Danielle Smith. Smith is hosting a major fundraiser in Calgary tonight.
This follows Findlay’s comments in the National Post sympathizing with the views of Alberta separatists and assuring them that she would still trade with Alberta if they separated.
Christy Clark described those comments on CFAX this week as “flirting with separation, lightly supporting Alberta separation. She’s surrounded herself by a lot of people from Alberta who have been interested in the separatist movement.”
Alberta Prosperity Project leader Jeff Rath described Findlay’s comments as “measured, reasonable and helpful” and suggested that as Premier of B.C., Findlay would be helpful for the Alberta separatist movement. Rath has met with senior U.S. Republicans to seek funding to campaign for separation.
Garry Begg, B.C. NDP Caucus Chair:
“It’s shocking to see Kerry-Lynne Findlay’s first priority as Leader is to jet out of the province to support the Alberta Premier who is threatening to break up Canada. At the same time, she’s avoiding accountability here at home after her political ally was just charged with sexual assault. This is an early test of her leadership, and she is failing.”
