Liberals comment on new U.S. tariffs, review of CRTC streaming rules – June 3, 2026

Prime Minister Mark Carney, ministers and Liberal MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as the federal party holds its weekly caucus meeting.

The prime minister, ministers François-Philippe Champagne (finance), Steven MacKinnon (transport, government House leader) and Patty Hajdu (jobs and families) are asked about the new U.S. 10 per cent tariffs on 60 countries over forced labour concerns.

Carney and Minister Marc Miller (Canadian identity and culture) discuss the government’s call for the CRTC to review its recent decision that would require online streaming services to contribute 15 per cent of Canadian revenues toward supporting the creation of Canadian content.

Minister Gary Anandasangaree (public safety) responds to questions on Bill C-22, the federal government’s legislation on lawful access.

MPs James Maloney, Vince Gasparro, Salma Zahid, Leslie Church and Michael Coteau comment on the Ontario government’s plan for the expansion of Toronto’s Billy Bishop airport

MPs Brendan Hanley and Yvan Baker are asked about whether increased support should be given to the softwood lumber sector.

Minister David McGunity (defence) faces questions on his department signing a contract with American data company Palantir. He also comments on the government’s planned purchase of Saab’s GlobalEye airborne early warning aircraft platform amidst concerns of its compatibility with NORAD systems.

Minister Joanne Thompson (fisheries), as well as MPs Chris d’Entremont and Marcus Powlowski speak about issues ranging from proposed legislation from the NDP to change floor-crossing rules to the possible expansion of medical assistance in dying to individuals solely suffering from a mental illness
