The Trump administration is proposing a new 10 per cent tariff on some Canadian goods, citing concerns about Canada’s enforcement of bans on imports made with forced labour. The proposed tariff would not apply to goods that comply with CUSMA. The announcement comes as Canada and the U.S. engage in talks on the future of the trade pact and follows a visit to Washington on yesterday by Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc and chief negotiator Janice Charette, who met with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. Marc-André Cossette speaks with Ralph Goodale, a member of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Advisory Committee on Canada-U.S. Economic Relations, about the proposed tariffs and what they could mean for Canada-U.S. trade relations.
