__________

Students in North Vancouver have settled into new classrooms at Lynn Valley Elementary school.

“North Vancouver is growing quickly and we’re moving quickly to keep pace,“ said Bowinn Ma, Minister of Infrastructure. “This 145-seat addition at Lynn Valley Elementary school follows another 100-seat addition that just opened earlier this year at Westview Elementary school, with more additional elementary seats to come at the new Cloverley Elementary school anticipated to open this fall.”

Benefiting students today

  • This expansion at Lynn Valley Elementary adds 145 new seats for students in six classrooms.
  • These new seats help meet the enrolment needs of the community and ensure kids have the classrooms they need to thrive.

“When we build new classrooms, we’re investing directly in the future of the Lynn Valley community,” said Susie Chant, MLA for North Vancouver-Seymour. “These new spaces reflect the growth of the neighbourhood and ensure families have the strong, welcoming schools they count on.”

Supporting North Vancouver students

Since 2017, the Province has committed more than $230 million to create more than 1,000 new seats and 3,150 seismically safer seats for students in North Vancouver. They include:

  • 100-seat addition at Westview Elementary that opened in March 2026
  • replacement and expansion of Handsworth Secondary, which provided 1,400 safer seats, including 200 new seats that opened in winter 2022
  • replacement of Argyle Secondary, which provided 1,200 seismically safer seats that opened in winter 2021
  • more than $9 million for the expansion at Lynn Valley Elementary

Additionally, for the 2025-26 school year, the North Vancouver School District has received more than $51 million through minor capital programs, which include funding for building maintenance, energy-efficiency upgrades and new buses.

“Students benefit from classrooms that support their curiosity and confidence,” said Lisa Beare, Minister of Education and Child Care. “With 145 new, modern spaces at Lynn Valley Elementary, our government is delivering for students with record investments to build new classrooms and upgrade schools.

Since 2017, the Province has provided funding for eight new and upgraded playgrounds in the North Vancouver school district (Seymour Heights Elementary, Blueridge Elementary, Norgate Elementary, Larson Elementary, Westview Elementary, Lynnmour Elementary, Queen Mary Community Elementary and Brooksbank Elementary).

“This expansion helps support a vibrant, healthy learning community where students will thrive for years to come,” said Antje Wilson, chair, North Vancouver School Board. “We are grateful to the Province of British Columbia for their investment.”

Creating more student spaces throughout B.C.

Since 2017, the Province has committed to more than $7 billion for schools:

  • creating more than 47,000 new student seats in B.C.
  • upgrading more than 39,000 seismically safer seats in B.C. schools

These spaces include more than 1,000 new student spaces and 3,150 seismically safer seats that are complete for North Vancouver students .

As the province grows, government is committed to working with school districts and municipalities to provide all students with safe, modern and inspiring places to learn.
