TRU launches financial awards for Williams Lake nursing students

Thompson Rivers University (TRU) has launched new student awards to support learners entering the Practical Nursing Diploma program at its Williams Lake campus and help strengthen the future health-care workforce in the region.

Twelve new President Awards, valued at $5,000 each, are now available for domestic students entering the Fall 2026 intake of the program. The awards will provide $2,500 in each year of the two-year full-time diploma.

Applications for the Practical Nursing Diploma program remain open until June 15, 2026, with eight seats still available for Fall 2026.

TRU requires a cohort of 15 admitted students for the program to proceed and is encouraging qualified domestic students, particularly from the Williams Lake region, to apply.

“There are strong opportunities for graduates in health care, especially in rural and regional communities,” said TRU President Airini. “These new awards are about helping to remove financial barriers for students and supporting future licensed practical nurses from Williams Lake and the surrounding region as they begin their education close to home and build meaningful careers that strengthen community health care.”

The two-year Practical Nursing Diploma program prepares students to become licensed practical nurses (LPNs) capable of delivering safe, compassionate and culturally responsive patient care in a variety of health-care settings.

The program combines classroom instruction, laboratory learning, simulation and supervised clinical placements to help students develop the knowledge, skills and professional judgment required for contemporary nursing practice.

Graduates are eligible to write the REx-PN, a requirement for licensure in British Columbia.

Students interested in learning more about the program or awards can contact the Williams Lake campus at 250-392-8000 or email [email protected].
