MPs comment on Alberta’s referendum question, interim federal health program – May 26, 2026

MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as they convene for the daily question period in the House of Commons.

Prime Minister Mark Carney comments on his earlier statements in the House of Commons that the federal Clarity Act does not apply to Alberta’s referendum question on whether to hold a separation vote. Justice Minister Sean Fraser is also asked about this issue.

Conservative MPs Michelle Rempel Garner, Dan Mazier and Pierre Paul-Hus speak about the new report from the Parliamentary Budget Officer detailing the cost of the Interim Federal Health Program, which provides temporary health coverage to some groups of foreign nationals.

Liberal MP Stephanie McLean, as well as Bloc Québécois MPs Patrick Bonin and Alexis Brunelle-Duceppe are asked about reports surrounding the political future of Steven Guilbeault.

Liberal MP Corey Hogan and Conservative MP Kevin Waugh comment on the Alberta separatist movement.

NDP MP Jenny Kwan and Liberal MP Marcus Powlowski respond to questions on Bill C-22, the federal government’s legislation on lawful access
