Ministers comment on environmental policies, Alberta separatism – May 26, 2026

Ministers speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as the federal cabinet holds its weekly meeting.

Ministers Mélanie Joly (industry) and Julie Dabrusin (environment) face questions on concerns raised by some Liberal MPs on the government’s environmental policies and reports surrounding the political future of Steven Guilbeault.

Joly also comments on the way forward for the government’s planned purchase of new fighter jets.

Minister Steven MacKinnon (transport, government House leader) is asked about the government’s legislative agenda and a new CTV investigation on the presence of organized crime at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport.

Minister Sean Fraser (justice) comments on Bill C-16, legislation to protect victims of crime. He is also asked about proposals for new CFL stadium to be built near the Halifax airport. Fraser comments as well on a forthcoming committee report examining the possible expansion of medical assistance in dying to individuals solely suffering from a mental illness.

Minister Eleanor Olszewski (emergency management) and Fraser are asked about Alberta’s upcoming referendum question on separation.

Minister Gregor Robertson (housing) is asked about whether he supports a new pipeline from Alberta to the B.C. coast.
