Conservatives Back Pipeline, Not Carbon Tax Hikes

Ottawa, ON – Today, the Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, released the following statement on the latest carbon tax agreement between Mark Carney’s Liberals and the Government of Alberta:

“Conservatives want a pipeline without a carbon tax, not a carbon tax without a pipeline.

“I want to recognize the hard work that Premier Smith is putting in to fight for the good people of Alberta. After 11 years of Liberal anti-resource development policies, she is working to minimize the damage federal policies are doing to her province.

“Sadly, Prime Minister Carney has kept in place every anti-development law from Justin Trudeau, including C-48, the tanker ban, C-69, the no more projects law, and the industrial carbon tax. His industrial carbon tax alone will drive costs up and jobs south.

“Here is the Conservative plan for a pipeline without a carbon tax:

  1. Scrap the Industrial Carbon Tax;
  2. Approve Alberta’s pipeline submission within 100 days of receiving it;
  3. Get shovels in the ground on a new pipeline to the Pacific by the end of 2026; and
  4. Publish a plan to allow oil production to grow by 2.5 million barrels per day by eliminating taxes and unneeded regulations that halt oil and gas growth.

“Conservatives will unblock Canada’s resources to make us affordable, safe and strong at home.”
