VERNON – BC New Democrat MLA Harwinder Sandhu says that a provincial grant will support upcoming athletic events over the next year.

“Our region has become a true sports destination welcoming athletes, their families, and fans whose presence strengthens our tourism economy and local businesses,” said Harwinder Sandhu, MLA for Vernon–Lumby. “These grants are a strategic investment to keep major events here at home, ensuring we continue to generate lasting economic and community benefits for years to come.”

The following athletic events are receiving funding from the provincial government’s Destination Events Program:

  • Crankworx SilverStar (August 2026) – $25,000
  • Vernon Winter Carnival (February 2027) – $19,000
  • Sovereign2Silverstar Ski Marathon (April 2027) – $14,000
  • ISU North American International Adult Competition (September 2026) – $11,000

The BC New Democrat government is committed to supporting events that draw visitors into communities, contribute to local economies, and enhance the quality of life for local residents.
