Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on Polish Heritage Month
Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, released the following statement on Polish Heritage Month:
“This month, we honour a proud, entrepreneurial and freedom-loving people. May is a time to celebrate the music, literature, folklore and cuisine that Canadians of Polish heritage have always cherished.
“One of our nation’s largest cultural communities, nearly a million Canadians have Polish ancestry and more than 160,000 claim Polish as their mother tongue.
“Some, like Sir Casimir Gzowski and General Walt Natynczyk, had distinguished careers in prominent roles. But many more were among our nation’s unsung heroes who built, fed and fought for this country through good times and bad.
“Polish Heritage Month is also a time to reflect on Canada’s role as a bastion of freedom at times when Europe was threatened by communism and fascism – dual evils that Poland resisted heroically.
“From pioneer Prairie homesteads to corporate corner offices, Canadians of Polish heritage have embodied the values of faith, family and freedom to the benefit of us all.
“On behalf of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, I want to wish all those celebrating a happy Polish Heritage Month!”
