Liberals comment on economic update, military recruitment – April 29, 2026

Prime Minister Mark Carney, ministers and Liberal MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as the federal party holds its weekly caucus meeting.

The prime minister and Stephen Fuhr (secretary of state, defence procurement) are asked about the government’s efforts to mobilize and grow the Canadian Armed Forces.

Minister Patty Hajdu (jobs and families) and Wayne Long (secretary of state, Canada Revenue Agency) comment on changes to the disability tax credit contained in the spring economic update.

Minister Anita Anand (foreign affairs) respond to questions on the proposals for Canada to join the European Union. She also speaks about the impact of cuts at Global Affairs Canada.

Minister Steven MacKinnon (government House Leader, transport) and MP Karina Gould are asked about yesterday’s House of Commons health committee meeting being suddenly moved being closed doors.

Minister Marc Miller (Canadian identity and culture) comments the possibility of legislation that would restrict the use of social media platforms for youth under the age of 16.

Ministers Evan Solomon (AI), Gregor Robertson (housing) and MP Steven Guilbeault face questions on topics ranging regulating AI platforms, the government’s plan for housing and environmental policies.
