MPs comment on sovereign wealth fund, addressing intimate partner violence – April 27, 2026

MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as they convene for the daily question period in the House of Commons.

Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne, NDP MP Gord Johns, Conservative MP Melissa Lantsman, Bloc Québécois MP Christine Normandin, and Liberal MP Steven Guilbeault comment on the government’s creation of a new sovereign wealth fund, a new federal entity that will invest, in concert with private sector partners, in projects deemed to be in the national interest.

Normandin and Bloc Québécois MP Xavier Barsalou-Duval are asked about Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette’s recent meeting with U.S. trade representative Jamieson Greer in Washington.

Conservative MP Frank Caputo discusses the passage in the House of Commons of his private member’s bill (Bill C-225), legislation aimed at addressing instances of intimate partner violence
