Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on Armenian Genocide Memorial Day

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, released the following statement on Armenian Genocide Memorial Day:

“This is a solemn date for millions around the world: a time for commemoration, prayer and reflection on the horrors of the past.

“Over 110 years ago, the world’s first Christian nation was subjected to brutal killings, repression and displacement. 

“The Armenian Genocide – the Medz Yeghern – saw the murder of over a million innocents, a crime against humanity that shocked the conscience of the world.

“Tragically, in recent years, we heard echoes of this atrocity, as Azerbaijan expelled over 100,000 Armenians from their historic homeland in Nagorno-Karabakh. 

“Today, we look forward to a future where these crimes are recognized for what they are, where justice is done and where all Armenians can live in peace and security.”
