“We Believe in Freedom of Navigation” Anita Anand on Canada’s Role as Hormuz Tensions Escalate

April 22, 2026 at 1:34 pm  Federal, Politics, Video

Tensions are rising in the Strait of Hormuz after Iran reportedly attacked three cargo ships, seizing two and escorting them to its coast. The move comes despite President Donald Trump extending a ceasefire, while a U.S. blockade of Iranian ports remains, which Tehran calls an act of war. Meanwhile, the White House has delayed peace talks, adding uncertainty over when negotiations and safe passage through the strait will resume. To discuss Canada’s view of the conflict and what role could it play in the region, Marc-André Cossette is joined by Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand.
