Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on Yom Ha’atzmaut

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, released the following statement on Yom Ha’atzmaut:

“78 years ago, a millennia-long dream was finally realized as the Jewish people could once again be free and independent with a state of their own.

“Since then, the state of Israel has remained a beacon of hope and democracy in the Middle East. Time and time again, the indomitable spirit of its people has defended those who sought its destruction.

“In defiance of critics, Israel has become a home to people of all faiths and backgrounds. Together, they built one of the most economically vibrant and technologically advanced countries on earth.

“As millions around the world celebrate the birth of the state of Israel on Yom Ha’atzmaut, they do so with the knowledge that thousands of years from now, they will continue to practice the same religion, in the same language, on the same land as their ancestors.

“On behalf of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, I wish all those celebrating a Happy Independence Day.”

Yom Ha’atzmaut Sameach!”
