Liberals on upcoming trade talks with the U.S. – April 22, 2026

Prime Minister Mark Carney, ministers and Liberal MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as the federal party holds its weekly caucus meeting. The prime minister, Ministers François-Philippe Champagne (finance), Marc Miller (Canadian identity and culture), Anita Anand (foreign affairs) and Joël Lightbound (government transformation, public works and procurement), as well as MPs Corey Hogan, Marcus Powlowski, Jean-Yves Duclos and Ben Carr face questions about reports that the Trump administration is demanding concessions from Canada ahead of CUSMA trade talks.

Carney and MP Steven Guilbeault also comment on Earth Day and the federal government’s new nature strategy.

Minister Sean Fraser (justice), in addition to MP Greg Fergus, as well as Champagne, Carr and Duclos speak about the government’s new motion that would allow the Liberals to change the composition of House committees to ensure Liberal MPs have a majority.

Taleeb Noormohamed and Hogan respond to questions on the possibility of a new Alberta pipeline.

Minister Steven MacKinnon (government House Leader, transport) is asked about early retirement for public servants and Minister Patty Hadju (jobs and families) speaks about labour relations
