Liberals comment on securing majority in House of Commons – April 15, 2026

Prime Minister Mark Carney, ministers and Liberal MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as the federal party holds its weekly caucus meeting. The prime minister speaks alongside newly elected Liberal MPs Doly Begum (Scarborough Southwest), Danielle Martin (University–Rosedale) and Tatiana Auguste (Terrebonne). The Liberals’ win in Monday’s three byelections pushed the party to majority status in the House of Commons.

Minister Steven MacKinnon (government House Leader, transport) is asked about how the party attaining majority status will impact the government’s work in the House of Commons and in committees.

Minister Anita Anand (foreign affairs) announces more than $120 million in new funding to respond to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Lebanon.

Anand and Begum also face questions on the killing of a Canadian in an Israeli strike in Southern Lebanon.

Minister Gary Anandasangaree (public affairs) is asked about the government’s plans to introduce an online harms bill.

Minister Evan Solomon (AI) responds to questions on whether the government intends to introduce legislation to regulate AI platforms.

Minister Marc Miller (Canadian identity and culture) faces questions on whether there are plans to move forward on a resolution adopted at the recent Liberal convention that would ban social media platforms for youth under 16.

Minister Patty Hajdu (jobs and families), as well as MPs Stephanie McLean and Lori Idlout comment on the mood in the party’s caucus and the Finnish population in Thunder Bay.
