Group presents petition urging consideration of Afghanistan vet for top military – April 15, 2026

At a news conference in Ottawa, MPs and advocates discuss their petition calling for the government to establish an independent review board for military honours. The group is also pushing for the Victoria Cross, Canada’s highest military honour, to be awarded posthumously to late Afghanistan war veteran Pte. Jess Larochelle.

In attendance are Liberal MP Pauline Rochefort, who is presenting the petition in the House of Commons, Conservative MP Blake Richards, former chief of defence staff General Rick Hillier (ret.), and Saskatchewan MLA Blaine McLeod.
