Montréal, QC – 4,500 Canadians from across the country are gathering today in Montréal for the Liberal Party’s record-breaking 2026 National Convention.

“Building on the success of last year’s historic election victory that earned Mark Carney and our Liberal team a new mandate from Canadians, I am looking forward to welcoming 4,500 Canadians from every corner of the country to Montréal,” said Sachit Mehra, President of the Liberal Party of Canada. “This is a moment for Liberals to come together with their big and bold ideas to shape the future of our party—and continue our work of building Canada strong.”

The 2026 Liberal National Convention reflects the strong momentum of the party under Mark Carney’s leadership. More than half of the participants are attending a Liberal convention for the very first time, and this is the most youth delegates of any Liberal policy convention. This reflects record-breaking support from Canadians across the country, from a leadership race that saw nearly 300,000 people join our party as Registered Liberals, to the party’s best-ever year for fundraising, and a successful national campaign that earned the most votes for any party in Canadian history.

“This convention will bring together a record-breaking number of supporters, organizers, and leaders for three days of policy discussions, training, keynote speeches, and the election of the party’s next National Board of Directors,” said Azam Ishmael, National Director of the Liberal Party of Canada. “I want to thank all the dedicated volunteers who are helping make this important milestone possible, and who have helped make the last year one of the most successful years in our party’s history. Together, we’ll keep building a stronger Liberal Party and Canada.”

While the Conservatives continue to focus on division and have opposed our plan and progress, at this critical moment for our country, Mark Carney’s new Liberal government remains focused on building Canada strong by cutting taxes for the middle class, creating good jobs, protecting workers, and creating the strongest economy in the G7. This convention marks an important opportunity to build on that momentum and continue delivering results Canadians deserve.
