METCHOSIN– New Democrat MLA Dana Lajeunesse says that provincial funding is helping local companies to test and showcase new technologies that may help solve challenges in the marine industry.

“I’m excited see new technology being tested here in Metchosin that can help keep our coastal waters healthy and thriving,” says Dana Lajeunesse, MLA for Juan de Fuca-Malahat. “This is a great opportunity for B.C. companies to grow and improve their competitiveness in the marine industry, potentially creating more much needed jobs closer to home for people.”

KOTUG Canada is receiving $290,000 to test a cost-effective service that can improve fuel efficiency while reducing underwater noise, which can be harmful to marine life. KOTUG will also be working with Rokir Analysis to deploy instrumentation that will be used to collect relevant project data.

This is one of the first three projects in the province’s new marine and coastal testbed, a part of the Look West strategy. Look West outlines B.C.’s vision to deliver more jobs and opportunities by strengthening the workforce and developing a more independent economy in B.C.’s key industries.

The marine and coastal testbed will provide funding for businesses to test new made-in-B.C. technology in the real world, so they can improve, scale, and eventually sell their products and services around the world. The projects address challenges facing marine industries, while improving efficiency, competitiveness, and health and safety.
