Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Commonwealth Day:

“In this time of great upheaval, when Canadians are looking with renewed pride to our past and institutions, the Commonwealth of Nations holds a special place of honour.

“With many fellow members, we share important history and common customs. These include our ancient liberties and constitutional traditions that stretch back centuries.

“This was beautifully embodied when our King, who is also Head of the Commonwealth, opened Canada’s parliament last year.

“As we approach the centenary of the 1926 Balfour Report, we are reminded of Canada’s central role as a founding member of this great family of nations, and of our ongoing role in its story.

“I want to wish all those celebrating, here in Canada and around the world, a very happy Commonwealth Day.”
