Building Leverage Abroad

Ottawa, ON – This week, the Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, visited Great Britain and Germany to meet with parliamentary counterparts and business leaders and deliver his plan to build strength at home with free trade among free nations that secures unbreakable leverage abroad.

In London, Poilievre met with fellow Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, Conservative Shadow Foreign Secretary Priti Patel and Conservative Shadow Secretary of State for Business and Trade Andrew Griffiths. Poilievre also spoke with business leaders about strengthening the historic relationship between Canada and Great Britain, expanding trade and building on our shared security.

During speeches at a Canada, Australia, New Zealand and UK (CANZUK) reception and the Margaret Thatcher Lecture at the Centre for Policy Studies, Poilievre laid out his plan for a CANZUK partnership that would remove barriers, lower prices and boost wages while building leverage abroad. It includes automatic professional recognition, regulatory presumption of equivalence, a skilled mobility framework, defence procurement integration and a critical minerals and energy compact.

After the speeches, Poilievre continued to build on the themes by sitting down with the TRIGGERnometry podcast. This discussion centred on how Conservatives can restore justice and opportunity for working people betrayed by a state that took from the hardworking many to enrich the privileged few.

Poilievre also took the time to visit the Canada Memorial in remembrance of the 110,439 Canadians who made the ultimate sacrifice fighting alongside our British allies during the two World Wars. He also toured the Palace of Westminster and the fields of Runnymede, the sources of Canada’s ancient freedom and parliamentary traditions.

In Berlin, the Cold War dividing line between liberty and socialism, freedom continued to be a potent theme as Poilievre met with political and business leaders to deliver a Team Canada message: Canada has the resources our allies need, from liquefied natural gas, uranium and potash to critical minerals that will strengthen both of our countries. That included discussions with Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, along with a visit to the Bundestag to speak with Thomas Röwekamp, Johannes Winkel and Jens Spahn.

At the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Poilievre continued to deliver his vision to fuel freedom, rearm and lock arms to secure Canada and our allies by making both countries stronger at home with unbreakable leverage abroad. That included getting new pipelines and LNG liquefaction terminals built so European allies would have the energy they need from a friend they can trust.
