Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on Purim

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Purim:

“Tonight, Jewish families will gather in synagogues to hear the Megillah be read, telling the story of Esther’s courage and resolve in the face of unspeakable evil.

“In our own time, we have once again seen antisemitism rear its ugly head from Hamas’ genocidal attack on October 7th to the massacre of those celebrating Hanukkah on Bondi Beach last year. Here at home, synagogues have been attacked as the majority of religious hate crimes continue to target Jews.

“But just as Esther triumphed over Haman and his hatred, today reminds the Jewish people will continue to prevail against all those trying to extinguish their light.

“As Jews across Canada and around the world celebrate together by giving back to those in need, as children enjoy fresh Hamantaschen and dress up in costumes, Conservatives extend our best wishes to everyone marking this Purim.

“Chag Purim Sameach.”
