MPs comment on govt’s AI policy, community safety & resource extraction projects – February 26, 2026

MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as they convene for the daily question period in the House of Commons.

Conservative immigration critic Michelle Rempel Garner calls on the federal government to do more regarding the federal government’s policies towards artificial intelligence. This comes in in the wake of revelations that OpenAI banned an account associated with the Tumbler Ridge, B.C. shooter last June but failed to alert Canadian authorities. Rempel Garner also outlines concerns with the performance of Immigration Minister Lena Diab.

NDP MP Leah Gazan calls on the federal government to institute more adequate safety protocols in communities around resource extraction projects. She is also asked about the possibility that NDP MP Alexandre Boulerice may leave federal politics to run for Québec Solidaire in the 2026 provincial election.
