MPs comment on military housing expansion, govt’s meeting with OpenAI reps – February 24, 2026

MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as they convene for the daily question period in the House of Commons.

Conservative defence critic James Bezan comments on the government’s announcement that it will aim to construct roughly 7,500 new military housing units across the country.

Conservative House Leader Andrew Scheer speaks about his party’s opposition motion that calls for a review of the program that provides short-term health-care coverage for asylum seekers and some resettled refugees.

Conservative MP Ben Lobb and Scheer respond to questions on the meeting later in the day between federal government officials and representatives from OpenAI. The meeting comes in the wake of revelations that OpenAI banned an account associated with the Tumbler Ridge, B.C. shooter last June but failed to alert Canadian authorities.

Bezan, Scheer and Lobb are also asked about Prime Minister Mark Carney’s invitation to Matt Jeneroux, former Conservative MP and new member of the Liberal Caucus, to accompany him on an upcoming trade mission to India, Japan and Australia.
