Indigenous group calls for passage of law to criminalize forced sterilization – February 24, 2026

At a news conference in Ottawa, representatives from the Survivors Circle for Reproductive Justice call for the passage of Bill S-228, Senator Yvonne Boyer’s legislation to make forced sterilization a criminal offence. The bill has been passed in the Senate and is now at second reading in the House of Commons.

Also in attendance are Senator Boyer and Conservative MP Jamie Schmale, as well as survivors of forced and coerced sterilization.
