Conservatives Urge Ottawa to Cut Taxes on GM Workers’ Severance

February 9, 2026 at 3:12 pm  Federal, Politics, Video

Opposition Conservatives are calling on the federal government to reduce taxes on severance packages for laid-off auto workers following the closure of General Motor’s plant in Ingersoll, Ontario.

CPAC host Michael Serapio is joined by Arpan Khanna, Conservative MP for Oxford (ON), about his party’s proposal, criticism from Unifor Local 88, whether severance payments should be tax-free, and why the call is focused on auto workers in particular. Khanna also addresses Conservative opposition to federal EV rebates for U.S.-made vehicles and what that could mean for Canada’s auto sector and CUSMA negotiations.
