Ian Brodie Reflects on Stephen Harper’s Tenure as Prime Minister

Ian Brodie, former chief of staff to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, joins Michael Serapio in Ottawa for a timely conversation on leadership, legacy, and Canada’s current political moment as Conservatives celebrate the 20th anniversary of Stephen Harper’s first election victory.

Ten years after Harper left office, Brodie reflects on what the Harper government ultimately gave to Canada, the relationship between Harper and Prime Minister Mark Carney, and reports that the two have been in contact since Carney took office. He also discusses Carney’s leadership so far, what advice he may be seeking, and what Conservatives must do to return to power.
