For the member of the month – February 2026, we interviewed KAC member artist Teresa Rush.

.

Full Name: Teresa Rush

Medium: photography, painting, and jewelry

How long have you been practicing your art:
I feel that I am still very new to creating art that I want to share with the community. I have been involved with the local arts community for the past 4-5 years.

What do you most enjoy about art:
I enjoy connecting with local artists and artisans in the community and learning and experimenting with different techniques and mediums.

What is your favorite joke/quote:
“Go fast, take chances.”

Why are you a member of the Kamloops Arts Council:
I became a member of the Kamloops Arts Council because I believe it is a community-led organization and very inclusive to all artists from varying backgrounds, skills and experience. My first experience with the organization was as a volunteer and I have felt very welcomed by the staff and other members that I have met. I have met some
wonderful people through the Kamloops Arts Council.

What are you looking forward to the most in this upcoming year (A special show or project you’re working on):
Currently, I have pieces in the Time and Place Exhibit at Kamloops Art Gallery. This exhibit is a collection of four Urban Indigenous artists reflecting on their experiences of time and place in Kamloops. I have four watercolour paintings and some poetry in the exhibit. The exhibit will be up until February 10, 2026. For more information – Time & Place — Kamloops Art Gallery
I also have art in the DIS//Connect: Remembering the Red Bridge In Time, which I cocurated with Shay Paul. I submitted two silk-screen prints to the exhibition. This exhibit is a collection from 24 local artist showcasing their reflections and memories of the Red Bridge. There are over 40 pieces on display at the Kamloops Art Council until February 12, 2026. For more information – The DIS//CONNECT: Bridging together community through reconnection and collaboration.
