Liberals comment on CUSMA review, First Ministers’ meeting – January 28, 2026

Prime Minister Mark Carney, ministers and Liberal MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as the federal party holds its weekly caucus meeting.

The prime minister is asked about the CUSMA review and the state of Canada-U.S. relations.

Carney, Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne as well as MPs Taleeb Noormohamed, Jonathan Wilkinson and Corey Hogan face questions on expectations surrounding today’s trilateral meeting between Prime Minister Mark Carney, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and B.C. Premier David Eby. They also comment on tomorrow’s First Ministers’ meeting in Ottawa.

Defence Minister David McGuinty responds to reports that Canada may be considering the purchase of Swedish Gripen fighter jet in lieu of the U.S.-made F-35.

Veterans Affairs Minister Jill McKnight comments on five Canadian Armed Forces members resigning from the Women’s Veterans Council.

AI Minister Evan Solomon, as well as MPs Anthony Housefather, Patrick Weiler, Adam van Koeverden and Jean-Yves Duclos face questions on issues ranging from the government’s forthcoming AI strategy, the work of the House of Commons justice committee, Avi Lewis’ run for the NDP leadership. and Quebec’s third link transit project.
