Wytrychowski storms to Rookie of the Week
The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) has named Kamloops Storm forward Nicklas Wytrychowski its Rookie of the Week for the period ending Jan. 18.
The Airdrie, Alta., native recorded two goals and three points in a pair of Storm victories. In a 6–3 win over the 100 Mile House Wranglers, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound forward scored to give Kamloops a 2–1 lead, then added his first of two assists by setting up Noah Paulsen’s game-winner in the second period. He followed that up with a goal and an assist in a 5–4 overtime win over the Columbia Valley Rockies, with his 14th goal of the season putting the Storm ahead 3–2.
Storm head coach Andrew Fisher liked what he saw from the rookie during the week.
“He used his size and deceptive speed well,” said Fisher. “He protected the puck, took it to the net and got pucks to the net when he had traffic.”
Wytrychowski has 14 goals and 20 assists for 34 points in 32 games, ranking eighth among KIJHL rookies.
