Doug Ford reacts to federal govt’s deal on Chinese EVs – January 16, 2026

Speaking briefly with reporters in Mississauga, Ontario Premier Doug Ford responds to Prime Minister Mark Carney’s recent announcement that Canada would allow 49,000 Chinese electric vehicles into the country per year. Under the deal, the vehicles would have a 6.1% tariff rate in exchange for a reduction of Chinese tariffs on Canadian canola from 84 to 15 per cent by March 1.
