OTTAWA – Canada’s NDP has announced the date and preliminary details of the second leadership debate for the 2026 Leadership Race. The debate will take place on Thursday, February 19 at 5 p.m. PT in BC’s lower mainland and will be moderated by award-winning journalist Hannah Thibedeau of Global Public Affairs.

“New Democrats are proud of the role we have played in building a stronger and more just Canada, and we are optimistic about our future,” said NDP leader Don Davies. “This is an exciting time for our members to help shape the future of our party and of our country.”

Further information on the debate, including a finalized list of contestants, will be released by the Party as we get closer to the date.

“Debates are where leadership gets real,” said Thibedeau. “They give members and all Canadians a chance to hear ideas side by side and see how candidates think on their feet. I’m pleased to be moderating a conversation that will help shape the next chapter of the NDP.”
