Coastal First Nations leaders comment after meeting with PM Carney – January 13, 2026

In Prince Rupert, B.C., representatives from the Coastal First Nations hold a news conference following their meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney. The leaders met to discuss the federal government’s major projects agenda as well as common priorities like marine conservation.

In attendance are Marilyn Slett, president of the Coastal First Nations and elected chief of the Heiltsuk Nation, Gaagwiis (Jason Alsop), vice-president of the Coastal First Nations and president of the Haida Nation, and Maureen Nyce, chief councillor of the Haisla Nation.
