NDP MLA Melanie Mark says new infrastructure funding a boost for community services

Fulmer’s elitist B.C. Liberal approach would make life harder for working British Columbians, says Begg

VANCOUVER B.C. Conservative leadership candidate Yuri Fulmer’s out-of-touch approach would mean deep service cuts and higher costs for everyday British Columbians.

Fulmer calls for significant budget cuts combined with major tax breaks for the wealthiest 2% and corporations – going all in on the failed B.C. Liberal approach that led to major service cuts and higher costs for working people, including doubling MSP Premiums and skyrocketing ICBC rates.

In a recent op-ed, Fulmer invoked the long-debunked elitist stereotype that young people could afford homes if they only worked harder and stopped buying avocado toast.

“This is the governmental equivalent of spending more on avocado toast than you make in your first job,” Fulmer wrote. “When millennials do it, we all roll our eyes, and when our kids do it, we sigh.”

Fulmer backed the B.C. Liberals with nearly $10,000 over 20 years before making his first B.C. Conservative donation on July 21 2024, the day before he was nominated as a candidate.

Garry Begg, B.C. NDP Caucus Chair:

“Yuri Fulmer would cost people a lot more than they spend on avocado toast. His plan to cut taxes for himself and other multi-millionaires would mean higher costs for everyone else and deep cuts to hospitals and schools, just like before. British Columbians – especially young people trying to afford a home – can’t go back to that costly and elitist B.C. Liberal approach.”
