Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on Orthodox Christmas

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Orthodox Christmas:

“Tonight, for thousands of Canadian families, the joys of Christmas are just beginning.

“In churches and homes across the country, customs and rituals carried through persecutions, wars, and upheavals will mark the birth of the Saviour.

“As so many Eastern Orthodox, Eastern Catholic and Oriental Orthodox communities boldly celebrate according to their ancient timing, we reflect on Canada’s core commitment to religious liberty: a country where the government has no right to tell its people how – or when – to pray.

“Generations of Eastern Christians have left their mark on our communities – not just in the architecture of their churches, but as businesspeople, public servants and ordinary parents who raised outstanding citizens in a spirit of faith, family and freedom.

“On behalf of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, I want to wish everyone celebrating a very merry Christmas!

“Christ is born – let us glorify Him!”
