BC Transit expansion on the Sunshine Coast will give more options and better service to riders

SECHELT – People using transit on the Sunshine Coast will see improved transit options with the introduction of additional service hours on several routes.
“People on the Sunshine Coast now have more convenient and reliable transit options with the introduction of additional service hours on Route 90,” said Randene Neill, MLA for Powell River- Sunshine Coast. “By increasing frequency on this key route and expanding handyDART service, we’re making it easier for residents to get to where they need to go, whether it’s commuting, accessing services or enjoying everything the Sunshine Coast has to offer.”
To support increasing ridership and convenient transit service for people throughout the province, BC Transit and the B.C. government are partnering with the Sunshine Coast Regional District to expand transit services. This builds on the work done in communities throughout B.C. to provide improved transit services and connect communities. The service expansion will begin on January 5, 2026, with the introduction of additional service hours, including:
- Increased frequency on Route 90 Langdale Ferry/Sechelt Express to 30 minutes from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays,
- Additional hours are also added to improve handyDART service delivery during weekdays and weekends.
These investments in the local transit system ensure that services offered are dependable for people using public transportation on the Sunshine Coast. The additional hours for handyDART service at peak times during both weekdays and weekends will help more people with mobility issues get to the places that they need.
The Ministry’s ongoing support for BC Transit ensures people outside Metro Vancouver continue to have access to the transit services they need. Since 2017, the Ministry has increased the provincial operating grant to BC Transit by approximately 70 per cent supporting transit service levels across the province and continuing to implement transit expansions that will benefit people throughout B.C.
