NDP MLA Melanie Mark says new infrastructure funding a boost for community services

BC Transit expansion in the Cowichan Valley will give more options and better service to riders

January 6, 2026 at 11:29 am  Politics, Provincial

Summary

  • Starting January 4, 2026, BC Transit and the B.C. government will be introducing Sunday service on Route 66 CVX Cowichan-Victoria Express.

__________

COWICHAN – People using the Cowichan-Victoria Express will have increased access to transit options when travelling over the weekend.

“People in the Cowichan Valley will soon have more reliable and convenient transit options to get where they need to go,” said Qwulti’stunaat – Debra Toporowski, MLA for Cowichan Valley. “By expanding service on the Cowichan-Victoria Express, we’re making it easier for people to travel between communities and access the services they rely on.”

To support increasing ridership and convenient transit service for people throughout the province, BC Transit and the B.C. government are partnering with the Cowichan Valley Regional District to expand this interregional service with additional annual service hours. This builds on the work done in communities throughout B.C. to provide improved transit services and connect communities.

Changes include:

  • Introduction of Sunday service to Route 66 to improve inter-regional service between Cowichan Valley and Victoria available seven days a week.
  • Select Route 66 CVX trips will provide connections with Route 70 Nanaimo-Cowichan Express (NCX).

These investments in the local transit system strengthen services that are dependable for people in the Cowichan Valley and the surrounding communities and ensure that people who use public transit have access to transit options that they can rely on.

The ongoing support for BC Transit ensures people outside Metro Vancouver continue to have access to the transit services they need. Since 2017, the Ministry has increased the provincial operating grant to BC Transit by approximately 70 per cent supporting transit service levels across the province and continuing to implement transit expansions that will benefit people throughout B.C.
