Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Rizal Day:

“The destiny of nations is shaped by remarkable and iconic individuals. José Rizal was one of those figures who, through his life’s work, succeeded in capturing the call of his country for freedom and liberty.

“Whether crafting sculptures or using the power of his pen, his work fostered Filipinos’ sense of national identity, and his legacy continues to inspire those today.

“Canadians of Filipino descent continue to embody the cherished principles at the heart of his work. His legacy reminds us not just of the heroes who shaped the annals of history, but also of every person who works to make their communities and country stronger.

“As we remember José Rizal, let us celebrate these everyday heroes – from healthcare workers to builders to volunteers – who help make our common home more prosperous.

“Happy Rizal Day!”
