
KIJHL announces its November Stars
The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) is pleased to announce its Stars of the Month for November.
Forward – Brady Magarrell – Beaver Valley Nitehawks
The Coaldale, Alta., product put together a dominant month with 14 goals and 25 points in 10 games, averaging 2.5 points per game while playing 18:37 a night with +20 rating. Magarrell was a goal-scoring machine with a four-goal performance (5-2 win over Grand Forks – scored the winner) and two hat-tricks (Nov. 14 versus Golden Rockets, Nov. 28 versus Spokane Braves – second game-winner). He had five multi-goal games.
He’s currently the KIJHL’s top goal scorer with 24 in 22 games and leads in points with 49. As a rookie last season, he had 22 goals, 12 assists for 34 points in 37 games.
Defence – Jackson Murphy – Kimberley Dynamiters
The 20-year-old from Calgary continued his strong play on the Dynamiters blueline, collecting a goal and 14 assists for 15 points in nine games. He assisted on the game-winning goal in an 8-4 win over the Sicamous Eagles on Nov. 14. Murphy averaged 22:21 of ice time a game while recording six multi-point performances – including two three-assist games (Nov. 9 versus Princeton and Nov. 14 versus Sicamous – 8-4 win) with a +20 rating. Murphy’s consistency helped Kimberley win six of its nine games.
He’s the KIJHL’s top producing defenceman with 29 points in 22 games. He has established a new season high in points, surpassing the 23 points in 33 games last season.
Goalie – Brenner Fyfe – Kamloops Storm
Fyfe was perfect in November, winning his seven starts as he saved 213 of 227 shots for a 2.00 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage. He opened the month with a 40-save performance in a 6-2 win over Quesnel. He followed that with a 35-save effort in a 4-1 victory over Castlegar. On Nov. 29, he turned aside 36 shots in a 3-1 win against 100 Mile House. Fyfe’s steady play helped the Storm to their best stretch of the season and established him as one of the league’s top netminders. He’s second among all KIJHL goalies with 13 wins in 16 games.
Rookie – Chase Campbell – Sicamous Eagles
Campbell had an excellent month, scoring 11 goals and adding eight assists for 19 points in 10 games, averaging 1.9 points per game. He scored the game-winner against Columbia Valley on Nov. 15, then assisted on the winner in a matchup with Spokane on Nov. 22. Against 100 Mile House on Nov. 28, Campbell recorded a natural hat-trick, including the tying goal to force overtime and win 4-3 in the shootout. The following night versus Quesnel, he scored the opening goal short-handed and assisted on the tying goal to send the game to overtime in a 5-4 win.
Campbell is tied for the KIJHL rookie lead in points with 32 in 19 games, and his 19 goals leads all rookies.
