Gun Buyback: “We Will not Cooperate”, Says Alberta’s Attorney General

Alberta unveiled its response to Ottawa’s gun buyback program this week. The federal law is designed to get assault style weapons off the street and includes both an amnesty period and compensation. But Alberta’s Attorney General, Mickey Amery, invoked the Alberta Sovereignty Act in an attempt to defy the federal program and avoid participating in it. In his view, the buy-back scheme won’t reduce crime and will disproportionately impact law abiding citizens.
