AFN Calls for the Withdrawl of Ottawa-Alberta MOU

Prime Minister Mark Carney delivered a speech at an Assembly of First Nations conference today, where he tried to sell the benefits of his plan to invest in projects of national interest. But some delegates were upset with the lack of consultation with the First Nations, notably with the MOU Ottawa signed with Alberta last week. The AFN unanimously voted to call on Ottawa to withdraw that MOU. CPAC’s Michael Serapio interviews Sara Mainville, managing partner at JFK Law and former Chief of the Couchiching First Nation, to unpack the PM’s speech and understand why First Nations are concerned about major projects like Alberta’s proposed pipeline.
