Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on Lebanese Independence Day

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Lebanese Independence Day:

“Today we celebrate a great and distinct nation. An ancient country named in the Bible, where Phoenicians once traded, and Greeks and Romans left their mark on its Mediterranean shores.

“Canada’s proud community of Lebanese heritage goes back over 140 years. For generations, they lived and knew the Canadian promise: that you could work hard and earn honest money to raise your family in a decent home – free to practice your chosen faith in peace and security.

“This cedar-like resilience and entrepreneurial spirit allowed Canadians of Lebanese heritage to make lasting contributions in the worlds of business, sports, politics and the arts – leaving their mark on communities across our common home.

“As we celebrate this incredible legacy, let us commit to making Canada a bastion of certainty in a dangerous world: where foreign conflicts remain far from our streets, places of worship are respected and Canadians of all backgrounds can work with one another to build a better tomorrow.

“On behalf of all my Conservative colleagues, I want to wish everyone celebrating a very happy Lebanese Independence Day!”
