Drivers travelling on Highway 7B are advised to expect minor delays as work begins on the Coquitlam River Bridge upgrade project, starting Sunday, Nov. 23, 2025.
Night work and initial temporary lane closures are expected on the bridge from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m., Nov. 23-30, 2025, as the contractor prepares the site for construction, installs concrete barriers, reduces lane widths and develops the pedestrian-bypass area.
Starting Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, work will shift to a daytime schedule from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, through the remainder of the winter. During regular daytime construction hours, two lanes of travel in each direction on the bridge will remain open for the duration of the project to ensure continual flow of traffic.
Though the lanes will be reduced in width to support construction activities, general commercial traffic (three metres or less) can continue to access the bridge. Oversized loads will require special permits to cross.
The speed limit through the construction zone will be reduced to 40 km/hr in each direction at all times until the project is complete.
Drivers should plan additional travel time through the route, with delays of as much as five minutes anticipated on top of normal congestion, depending on heavy travel periods.
