Ministers comment on the passage of the federal budget – November 18, 2025

Prime Minister Mark Carney and ministers speak briefly with reporters on Parliament Hill as the federal cabinet holds its weekly meeting. The prime minister as well as Ministers François-Philippe Champagne (finance), Patty Hajdu (jobs and families), Steven MacKinnon (government House leader) and Gregor Robertson (housing) comment on the passage of the federal budget. The budget motion passed last night in the House of Commons by a vote of 170 to 168, with four abstentions.

Minister Mélanie Joly (industry) faces questions on the federal government’s plan for the purchase of new fighter jets.

Minister Steven Guilbeault (Canadian identity and culture) responds to questions on Canada’s plan to meet its Paris climate targets.

Adam van Koeverden (secretary of state for sport) is asked about the fast-tracking of Canadian citizenship for soccer player Alfie Jones.

Minister Sean Fraser (justice) speaks about the way forward for passing the government’s bail reform legislation.

Minister Maninder Sidhu (international trade) is asked about the future of Canada’s trade relationship with Saudi Arabia.
