KIJHL Power Rankings (Week 9)
The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) is pleased to announce its Power Rankings for Week 9.
The Revelstoke Grizzlies won both their games last week, and didn’t surrender a goal. They defeated the Princeton Posse 1-0 in a shootout. Austin Seibel won the goalie battle with a 28-save shutout that included three more saves in the shootout. Jake Phillips-Watts netted the winner. Then against the Osoyoos Coyotes on Nov. 15, William Stewart earned his first KIJHL shutout with a 36-save performance. Tristan Hwang netted the winner short-handed at 8:08 of the first period. The Grizzlies are now 12-4-0-1 and on a three-game winning streak.
The Princeton Posse had back-to-back losses, beginning with their 1-0 shootout loss to the Grizzlies. Gibson Horne made 34 saves in regulation and overtime. They then lost 4-1 to the Chase Heat as Stanislav Stefaniv was stellar in goal making 46 saves. Dayton Koldyk scored the lone Posse goal – his first in the KIJHL. Sam Koester stopped 24 shots for Princeton. The Posse are now 13-3-0-2 to lead the Bill Ohlhausen division.
The Kimberley Dynamiters had one game during the week, doubling up the Sicamous Eagles 8-4. Jaden Rusznak made an immediate impact for the Dynamiters scoring twice, including the winner, and adding two assists. Rusznak was acquired by Kimberley from 100 Mile House. Brayden Schwartz led with five points and Connor Baumbach stopped 24 of 28 shots. Another Dynamiters newcomer, Toren Fron, scored his 10th goal to tie the game 1-1. The Dynamiters are now 13-4-0 to lead the Eddie Mountain division.
The Kamloops Storm picked up a pair of wins, starting with a 7-2 victory over the Creston Valley Thunder Cats. Ryan Pedersen scored the winner short-handed on a breakaway, while Luca D’Amore had four points and Hayden Selin and David Ander each found the back of the net twice. Brenner Fyfe saved 23 of 25 shots. The Storm then doubled up the Heat 4-2. Down 2-1 after two, they scored three third-period goals with the winner by Nicklas Wytrychowski. Joshua Nuttall made 32 saves. The Storm lead the Doug Birks division with a record of 14-4-1 and have won six straight.
The Kelowna Chiefs won their lone game, defeating the Nelson Leafs 5-1 on Saturday. Brenden Stirbu’s fifth goal earned the win as it gave them a 2-0 lead. Michael Makowsky made 31 saves. The Chiefs are 12-2-1 and tied for second in the Bill Ohlhausen division, but have games in hand on Princeton and Revelstoke. They are currently on a three-game winning streak.
