Liberals Miss Border Targets
Ottawa, ON – After ten years of incompetent Liberal ministers recklessly destroying Canada’s immigration system, Carney promised to finally “secure our border.” But under his hapless Public Safety Minister, the Liberals are not only failing to deliver, they’ve made the problem worse.
This was confirmed by the CBSA’s latest Departmental Results, which found the agency has continued to miss key performance targets necessary to ensure a strong border. According to the report, “The Immigration National Security Screening Program is facing pressures due to increasing volumes and new demands,” because of Liberal open-borders policies.
As a result, CBSA’s ability to identify, mitigate and neutralize “risks and threats to the safety, security and prosperity of Canadians and Canada” continues to decline. Only 12.9 per cent of national security recommendations were completed within the service standard in 2024-25. That’s a decline from 27 per cent the previous year and 46 per cent in 2022-23 – the target is 80 per cent.
Meanwhile, only 71 per cent of inadmissible foreign nationals with “no known impediments” were removed in 2024-25, the third consecutive year in which the Liberals missed their target. It’s been driven by out-of-control immigration, predominantly fake refugee claimants, which has led to a 77 per cent surge in the number of foreign nationals needing removal.
On trade, only half (51 per cent) of importers who were potentially subject to anti-dumping duties were verified to ensure compliance, well short of the 80 per cent target. Anti-dumping and countervailing duties protect Canadian producers from unfairly dumped and subsidized imports, but the Liberals failed to ensure compliance in almost half of the potential cases.
At the same time, the percentage of trade appeals decided within the service standard dropped to just 48 per cent from 70 per cent two years ago. This hurts the ability of businesses to access timely appeals for the CBSA’s decisions.
By failing to meet security screening targets and ensure bad actors are deported, the Liberals’ reckless immigration system and broken border make Canadians less safe. Carney promised Canadians he’d hire 1,000 new CBSA officers, but after it was revealed he had no plan, his Minister said he’s “not responsible” for ensuring they’re ever actually hired.
Instead, Carney has doubled down on the Liberals’ gun grab that will waste $742 million that could be spent on hiring thousands of new officers. That’s despite his own Public Safety Minister admitting it is entirely political, won’t work and he doesn’t even believe in it.
